What Sets High Achievers Apart? Consistency and Accountability

What’s the secret to achieving big goals? It’s not just your talent, intelligence, or luck. It’s about consistency and accountability. High achievers know that steady progress and a support system are the keys to success.

In this blog post, I’ll share why consistency and accountability should matter to you and how they set high achievers apart from people who don’t use them to improve their lives.

Let’s be honest here: consistency isn’t glamorous, and sometimes it can feel pretty boring and hard to stay motivated. But it’s what consistently delivers results.

Cast your mind back to anything you have really wanted to achieve in life.

  • Was it easy?
  • How long did it take you to achieve it?

The important thing here is that you did achieve it! Plus, when you think back in more detail, you will realise that you were consistent and stayed in the game till you achieved the end result. It might have taken you some time, but you did get there. Everything is possible if you put your mindset into the right place and get going.

Being consistent does the following:

1) It Builds Habits

Repeating small actions daily creates powerful routines. You start with nothing but create a system that will outperform everything over time. Also, an added bonus – creating one routine can lead to other powerful routines in your life. Before you know it, you will be a walking, talking habit machine that is ready to take on any new challenge!

2) It Compounds Over Time

Small, consistent efforts lead to exponential growth. Imagine a sticky ball rolling down the hill. As it rolls down, it starts growing as more things stick to it. This image is you in action as you start doing things repeatedly. Your little ball of stickiness becomes a massive ball of strength, resilience, and achieved goals.

3) It Reduces Decision Fatigue

When you’re consistent, you don’t waste time deciding what to do; you just do it. Have you ever sat there thinking about what you’re going to do, and then one hour later, you are still thinking about doing it? Consistency reduces your decision fatigue, and you can get on with it. Sounds a lot more liberating doesn’t it?!

High achievers are distinct because they commit to showing up daily, even when they don’t feel motivated. This decision is crucial to maintaining consistency and achieving success.

Why Accountability Is the Missing Ingredient

As mentioned in previous posts, in addition to consistency, you must add accountability to the equation. Accountability adds structure and support to your consistency. The two go hand-in-hand, because they:

  • Keep you focused on your goals
  • Help you navigate challenges with guidance and encouragement
  • Ensure you have follow-through, even on tough days and you can overcome procrastination

Another way to ensure accountability and promote consistency is to have someone to answer to. This connection with a real person makes you feel obligated to do it, and it will help you stick to your commitments. Over time, your habits will become natural, and you will be consistent with your actions, enabling you to break through accountability targets.

How to Build Consistency and Accountability in Your Life

Now you know how it works and how powerful it can be for you. It’s an exciting prospect knowing that you can achieve your dreams if you get yourself organised and stick to these two areas.

But how can you build consistency and accountability in your life? Well, there are three things you can do to start incorporating these principles from today.

1) Create a Routine

A routine is a priority. Once again, it might seem like a boring word, and it is, but a routine is one of the best things you can create for yourself. Schedule regular times for any tasks related to your goals. If you don’t do this, you will be here, there, and everywhere and not achieve anything.

2) Track Your Progress

Make a note of where you are as you work towards your goals. This process is an inspirational way to develop yourself. It keeps you consistent in your actions and holds you accountable as you go along. You can also use tools or journals to measure your consistency and see where you are on your journey. For example, you could use a tool throughout your day or write in a journal every morning or night.

3) Bind Consistency and Accountability Together With an Accountability Partner

Working together with a supportive coach or mentor can be just the push you need. This regular connection helps you stay on track as you will have to check in with them and update them on your progress. You will also have somebody to celebrate your wins, as you start smashing your goals.

Use Consistency and Accountability and Become A High Achiever
