Welcome to the Isle Of Sheppey, named an isolate hell hole of an island (among other things), BUT is it really that bad?
Join us as we cross on to the island to explore one of the UK’s most deprived towns, Sheerness where we are faced with the threat of an exploding bomb ship and a path to nowhere in the quest to find an abandoned fort (which we fail).
Further round the coast we stop in Minster which feels a world away from Sheerness with it’s blue flag award winning beach, beautiful coastal park, Sheppey’s version of millionaire’s row and we even find a gypsy tart (a local Kent delicacy).
We finish our time on the island with a visit to the iconic beach huts in Leysdown before heading towards the areas nudist beach… unfortunately the weather closes in on us so we don’t quite make it (this time).
So is the Isle Of Sheppey as bad as people say? What do you think?
Recorded February 2023 on the Isle Of Sheppey at:
– Queenborough
– Sheerness
– Minster on Sea

Who & what is JJ Extra?
We’re Josh & Jason, a British couple with a passion for everything travel & food (and lots of coffee). Whether at home in the UK or on our international travels we seek out everything from hidden gems to bucket list destinations, trying new foods and unique drinks wherever we go.
After meeting in early 2019 with dreams of travelling the World together we were all plunged in to the chaos of a global pandemic. Now, as we move in to the future we are making up for lost time and ensuring every day turns in to an adventure, fuelled by our love of food and an unhealthy (but enjoyable) addiction to coffee.
Over the last 2 years we have explored our beautiful home country like never before and in 2022 we were lucky enough to start travelling abroad once more and our dream to travel the world together has been reignited.
We love an adventure and in 2023 we are challenging ourselves to step out of our comfort zones & push ourselves to the limit as we take on bigger adventures than ever before, visit new places & try new experiences. So come along and join the adventure, you never know where it might lead!

Paddle boarding for a fee? Pump ya board up get in water done. Fees get fucked
It's not Sheerness I find it's alot of the people living here
I stay in Queenborough regularly to see family & generally people are pretty nice the harbour there is good you can buy fresh fish off the fishermen. Little market in Sheerness isnt too bad for cheap household stuff and Beano Cafe is well worth a visit too. Even had a few interactions with the travellers over the years and theyre no bother either just wanna be left alone like most people!
I love it here lovely ppl come here quite a lot bring the grandkids an hour or so from London far from hell
Enjoyed your film and congratulations on winning the Eurovision Song Contest.
Down that little road to Shellness is where the Doggers meet, I had to explain to my 80 year old mother what Dogging was😂
Im from sheerness and its the best town in kent .
Very wise of you to leave before nightfall, when the crazies stalk the island, with their bloodlust for flytipping and stealing children's BMX bikes.!
Nope. We used to have gypsy tart at school. I hated having to scrape it off my spoon with my teeth, and still hate it.
Lived here all my life and it's what you make it. I can guarantee there's a lot worse places to live. Makes me laugh people slagging the place off as quite frankly if you don't like the place then piss off and don't come back as there's plenty of unwanted and not room for more.😊
Shshhhhhhhh don’t tell anyone. We moved here for the kite surfing. Don’t let the secret out! 😊
I have some places on my list to walk on the island, thanks for your video it puts the island into perspective, if you havent already there is a nice walk around the estuary in iwade.
The whole of the uk is a hell hole
In the 60s and 70s, Sheerness was a good holiday resort. It had a Caravan site and a Fairground. The War camps were fun too.
you two are hilarious LMAO, I'm going with my partner next week and I was hoping to understand whether the locals are nice loool
Just watched a murder investigation on that island. 5 bloke battered a poor bloke with base ball bats. It looks like a horrible 60s holiday resort. Filled with oi oi east end thugs. Another Margate dump.
Actually a nice video for a change too many miss judged sheerness
Because of weasels like yourself it has a bad rep. I moved here 5 years ago and wouldn’t leave. You wombles coming here ripping it to shreds for likes🤦🏻
Go to scocles Road next
What a pair of wankers!
