“Embarrassing”.
That’s how Football Manager’s top boss described cancelling the 2025 edition of the game.
The latest instalment in the popular franchise was delayed last year and then scrapped completely in February, leaving fans furious.
In an interview with BBC Newsbeat, Miles Jacobson revealed how “things went wrong” while the game was being developed and that if they released it in the state it was in, “it would have damaged us forever”.
He also added that “it was the most expensive decision” the studio has ever made and that the cancellation has had an impact on what the studio has been able to put into FM26.

“I got two hours in and Sheffield Wednesday were top of the Championship. At this point I knew we had to cancel the game”
If only EA was like this.
I think everything he says its a lie . I always believed its al licencing issue. The new Fm will be the same as the old one. Wait and see
Over pushing women’s football
Imagine EA ever saying this
I wish every company would be brave enough to delay or cancel releases if they're aware it's not up to expected standards in time. I have loved this series from the original Championship Manager days twenty odd years ago, I always expect them to be fantastic and am happy to wait for them to get it right! Keep up the incredible work SI, thanks for all the entertainment over the years!
True leader with a refreshing insight into development challenges. FM26 is a day 1 purchase
Why am I seeing EA Sports in the Official Trailor? could it be that EA Sports are dipping their fingers in the game, and told SI to wait out a year for EA to help them 'perfect' this game. cos ive never seen EA Sports branding in any FM game before. or have I?
FCK YOUR WOMENS FOOTBALL IN FM …
FCK YOUR EDITOR PRICING
Will international teams be in this version? Would be shocking to not include this during a World Cup year.
What's done is done. I just wanna play the game. Disappointed with the lack of communication however I will be buying the new game
Fair play, I was gutted when they cancelled it but refreshing to hear they tried a big project, didn’t work and didn’t want to steal peoples money. I’ll be getting 26 🎉
Yet you still cant be transparent with the fanbase after you made some big spiel about it.
Great interview, learned absolutly nothing
If only all game developers were this honest and transparent. The world would be a better place. 🙏🏽 Thank you, you've earned my respect
Yet were still waiting and they didnt see the "need" to even drop an update on 24 ! These are empty excuses and not valid reasons . He even says they may not have made it due to the quality of the game regardless of issues !!!
If you're sending someone death threats over a video game then you should seek help.
I don't think they did anything wrong. Granted I started playing relatively recently but trust me, as someone who played FIFA/FC religiously, they did the right thing and especially his sentiment behind it. They care about their consumers and didn't want to give a half arsed product. The fact that he got death threats and stuff is crazy. Y'all clearly don't know video game Devs if y'all think this was handled badly, at least in recent times.
They could have just released a database update for FM 24 no? I have a strong feeling that we lost out on a game because they wanted women in the game…. The infrastructure and FM scouts they have around the globe wasn't built in a day… EA got around this by just licensing a few leagues or a few players in some leagues and diluting their packs with unknown players… They also dont need to care about accuracy because it is obvious most EA employees don't watch football at all, they can get away with it… But not SE. I'm fine with how it was, I probably wouldn't buy a "WFM" game because I only really support England, I'm not the market I guess.
Appreciate the candor and the care for our value investment to be… well, valuable. Rather wait for a good one than have a rushed one on time. We're not all Russian afterall.
