For the first time since its opening, the M25 motorway is closed! What an exciting opportunity to see one of the busiest motorways completely empty and whilst we enjoy looking at that, I’ll explain a bit about why it’s closed and what we can expect in the near future.
You… are… a cynical old… Maritime Drinks Operative…
And I love you.
Is that security fencing? It looks like sound fencing.
Look up Wisley Airfield development 500 yards away with new fly over to go onto Ripley round about.🎉
This is due to the Wisley, airfield housing development, it’s not being done to improvement, more make way for 2500 house being built 500 yards down the road.
Bottlenecks like this is good to limit traffic flow into other areas of the road network. I'm glad they're keeping it. The bad part is how much they are paying for it.
They should have got some cash back by opening the closed sections of the always open but technically not always motorway as a cycleway. Bung us a couple of quid and you get the unique experience of walking or cycling on a motorway! Imagine the fun we could have had with different athletic events or motoring events on a massive drag strip and of course someone like you could walk through that open gate, set the camera up, and present "welcome to the latest episode of Britain's abandoned roads. Today we are taking a look at a recently abandoned road the M25. Amazingly, although recently abandoned, plan's are already underway to reopen the road to the public, so what was the point of abandoning it?"
Oh no,where will all the doggers go in Ockham Woods
I do get the humour but I think it's rather unfair not to mention Wisley RHS Garden as part of this
bit of an arse? that's putting it mildly. It's a fucking nightmare during the rush hour!!
I commute this junction, still a pain in the bum 😊
Edit: comment made 14.06.25
2:19 I believe the main purpose of that fencing is for noise supression. Although it doesn't work very well. My mother owned a house that was nearby when the M25 was built and surveyors monitored the M25 noise levels from her garden before & after fence installation. In the end she got a bit of financial compensation as the sound hadn't reduced as much as had been promised.
So clickbait aside, what's the reasoning behind saying that the M25 has been "completely closed" – suggesting that the entire motorway is closed for its full 116.8 miles – when it's only a short stretch between two consecutive junctions that's closed?
One of the less attractive aspects of the British psyche is being dismissive of anything to do with infrastructure and assuming it won't work and is a waste of money. And it's always lay people opining too.
It takes the p155 really. Wasting public money without anyone being accountable.
Am loving these videos, thanks for post them.
It sounds very much like the Conservative party have given out contracts to have the M25 upgraded whilst the labour party are in power. Why didn’t they have it done properly in the first place?
i went past that when i came home from Disney land Paris on Thursday February 27th
I've long since abandoned that junction completely. I've found alternative ways of getting from the M25 to the A3 and vice-versa, that overall are much more pleasant, and actually considerably quicker
This might be my favourite Auto Shenanigans video. I love your undisguised contempt for this silly, pointless and wasteful project. They will need to come back and do the right turn movements properly in future. Just do it right now?
Although as a regular user of this junction ive had quite enough, and have my reservations about how it will actually improve traffic, if at all- J10 is slap bang in the middle of a common, SSSI which is also a major recreation area for the people of Surrey… which means that the design of the junction was naturally limited in the space it could take up. Wishing for a modern junction is fine but completely razing a huge area of woodland isnt, so this is the only option they could go with realistically
