Imagine being promised a blockbuster thunderbolt, but what you get is more like your neighbor’s firecracker that fizzles out before the “Happy Independence Day” echo fades. That’s Coolie.
The film bills itself as a gritty union-leader-turned-hero saga—but with a star-studded cast and booming budget of ₹350–400 crore, it feels like the masala was forgotten in the pot. It tries to juggle plot threads like a clown juggling fire torches—light-hearted in intent, but mostly leaving you singed and underwhelmed.
First half? Highlands of spice. Rajinikanth tries to carry the weight like a seasoned port worker, and the opening scenes almost stick. But post-interval, it's more of a slow slog through the suppression of logic. The crime plot? Less Underworld noir, more Underwhelming snore. The action sometimes feels like an overzealous trailer edit—flashy but hollow.
Worse, the screenplay keeps introducing twists like they’re freebies at a roadside stall—one too many, and you just lose the taste. Even Soubin Shahir tries to inject fun, but ends up stranded like a fan missing a firecracker’s final burst.
Punchy dialogue? More like punch-drunk confusion. Music by Anirudh is flashy, sure—but feels a bit like trying to jazz up bland food with too much garnish. No matter how shiny the decorations, you’re still eating stale dishes.
In short: Coolie is a high-budget, star-loaded can that wants to explode—but forgets the fuse.
Rating: 0.5/5 – A film so overhyped it feels like being promised firework, but getting a damp matchstick instead.
