Ne-Yo, who wrote "Irreplaceable", was inspired by his aunt and her lover, who cheated on her. When that lover came to her house wanting to take his stuff, she said, "Oh, in the box to the left of the closet. Everything you own is in that box and everything I bought is over here."
There's a Spanish version of this song entitled "Irreemplazable".
This song was very successful upon its release in 2006. It went to the top on many charts around the world. It stayed on top for ten weeks in the USA, breaking Beyoncé's previous own record of nine weeks with "Baby Boy".
When Beyoncé achieved an award as International Artist of the Year at the 2007 American Music Awards, she performed "Irreplaceable" with the country band Sugarland at the ceremony.
