‘The Rest is Football’ Finds New Home at DAZN After Lineker’s BBC Exit

Gary Lineker’s highly successful podcast, “The Rest is Football,” co-hosted with Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, has secured a new partnership with global sports broadcaster DAZN. The move follows Lineker’s recent departure from the BBC.

The new deal will see DAZN incorporate footage from this summer’s revamped FIFA Club World Cup, for which it holds broadcast rights, into the video version of the popular football show. This development comes after “The Rest is Football” was removed from the BBC’s audio streaming service last week in the wake of Lineker’s exit from the corporation.

Lineker, 64, concluded his 25-year tenure as the host of the iconic “Match of the Day” programme on May 25, 2025. His departure from the BBC, one year earlier than previously announced, was by mutual agreement following a controversy where the former England striker apologised for sharing a social media post deemed antisemitic. As a result, Lineker will no longer front the BBC’s coverage of the 2026 World Cup or the FA Cup.

Pete Oliver, Chief Executive of Growth Markets at DAZN, commented on the new partnership: “The Rest Is Football is essential viewing and listening for fans who want insight, entertainment, and personality — and this partnership is a brilliant way to bring the FIFA Club World Cup even closer to that audience. It’s about connecting global football with the voices fans trust and love, and showing the tournament in a fresh, exciting, and authentically British way.”

The move to DAZN signals a new chapter for Lineker and his popular podcast, aligning it with a major international sports streaming service and prominent global football events.
