We address the trauma here at Believe Detox Center. We understand that in order for an individual to be successful going forward in recovery, a certain mindset has to be there. Often times it’s unprocessed trauma that stands in the way. That being said, I wanted to take the time out to break down the different components of a recovery mindset and ehat helps an individual continue down a path of recovery after processing trauma that once served as an obstacle.
Your mindset has a direct impact on your journey and overall life. When people obtain a positive, growth-oriented perspective on recovery, they are often successful on the road ahead. When a person embraces the challenges that may come about as opportunities to grow and use some of the tools they have acquired, it becomes easier to navigate around potential moments that could lead to relapse.
I always try to practice the art of resilience, self-compassion and optimism. It’s when I personally incorporate these three things into my mindset that I am able to maintain a level of recovery and growth within it. I know I have the ability to bounce back if i fall. I focus on positive outcomes and I’m kind to myself during times of struggle. I recommend implementing these things into your life if you are a person in recovery or about to be.
Maintaining motivation is key because it aids in overcoming obstacles and not to mention that walking in recovery encourages a supportive community. Other things I personally practice is self awareness. It is so important to be able to recognize your triggers and emotional responses. I also tale the timeout to do a personal inventory of my strengths as well as my weaknesses so I know what I may need to work on, adjust, etc.
Another key element of recovery is having a strong support system. Family, friends, groups and more. Whoever supports your recovery is an ally to put it simply, but some support will be more important and useful specifically for you. Seek professional help as well if you need it. I also cannot forget to mention the powwr of being adaptable. Be open to new strategies for your recovery. Along the way, you may find new things that work better for you.
Journaling, meditation and any mindfulness exercises for grounding can be very beneficial as well. Try it for a few days straight amd monitor how you feel afterwards. Journaling is one of my favorite things to do as it allows me to process my daily anxiety, past traumas, etc. Reflective work in recovery is a key tool in my personal recovery. I also practice speaking affirmations and positive self talk throughout the day especially when negative thoughts arise.
Overall a Recovery mindset can look different for people, but the things listed above are some tools that can help build a foundation for anyone getting ready to start taking back control of their life. As always, one step at a time and remember that you are
not alone. Advocate for yourself and find the help that you need. Lastly, if your reading this you csn do it and Recovery is Real!
