Steve Erickson is a veteran singer-songwriter who spent years performing throughout the Southeastern United States in bands like Truth in Advertising and Medium Gauge. In 2012 he launched a successful solo recording career. He has since released four original full-length albums, and now a new career-spanning retrospective.
Currently, Steve Erickson splits his time between Asheville, North Carolina, and Vero Beach, Florida. His sound is defined by classic Americana arrangements and thoughtful storytelling. Within that musical tapestry he weaves deep threads of pop, rock, and country.
Retrospective is the aptly titled new fifteen-song collection from Steve Erickson. The album dropped worldwide via all major streaming services on September 27, 2024. From the melancholy traveler’s tale “One Port Ahead of the Storm” to the cool country shuffle of “Blue Horizon”, the singer offers universally relatable and deeply soulful tales of love, loss, and redemption.
Throughout the record, Steve Erickson peppers his timeless Americana vibe with nods to the music that inspired him. Tracks like “All or Nothing” and “Between the Lines” hint at an early-REM alt-pop sound. Meanwhile boogie-woogie jams like “Music Tonight” and “Living in Tune” lean hard into blues territory.
Dreamy tunes like “Sing That Old Song”, the heartfelt “My Love Will Be with You”, and “Find a Light” bring to mind the classic Laurel Canyon country-infused folk-pop of bands like The Eagles. Steve offers some social commentary on “Higher Ground” and the working man’s tale “Long Day Tonight” before riding further into country terrain with the sleepy banjo/fiddle lament “River” and the mandolin mountain music of “Crooked Road”
