I was at the allotment. A fire to clear the rest of that bramble forest mountain I created last summer, as I lugged things this way and that, covered ground where bramble crowns and roots still lurk. Dug some out but not many, tap roots bigger than a broom handle. Sawed through a few, left for another day. The trees in the orchard area leafless still, the above photo is from last summer.
The sun was shining on this little patch of the world, a young man building a shed, his girlfriend playing with two dogs, later more friends joined. Epic, they were still at it as I left many hours later, just before the sun started going down.
On the way to my allotment the park twinkled with sunshine and people. Laughter, a family playing hopscotch they’d chalked onto a pathway; that took me back. Lots of balls and dogs and children playing. The van cafe serving tea and cakes as parents of young children sat around chatting, and grand parents played with their tiny legged humans. And swings swung and slides got used and there was running and calling and birds singing and, it felt like a little snippet of spring. More times like this to come.
Now I’m home, the sun has disappeared behind charcoal and that tree out front stands very still. Nothing is moving. It’s as if I’m the only person who lives in this street. Allotment and park moment memories fade, as evening comes into view. I wonder what you are up to. Perhaps you’ll tell me in the comments.
Joy dots
Ordinary things
Simple life
Ground full of wet earth
Tiny creatures living soil
Worms not quite awake yet
The world, still turning
Humans, doing the things humans do
Day turning to night
Tomorrow here in a twinkling
Recipe
Chicken & creamy mash with minty courgette purée
I made this recipe this time last year and you can find it here. My cooker has broken and so having a think. I’ve just ordered a wonderbag and think I may start a little project making the best tasting slow cooked food in the wonderbag. The wonderbag is a lovely project, the heart of simplicity.
Imbolc
Yesterday it was Imbolc, I spent the day walking round the harbour with a friend, grey but warm in friendship, and then today the sun came out. Here is a post I wrote last year about Imbolc and Sattva.
