Slow Sunday

Magpie out front, chatak chatak chatak, busy saying something and in between the chatak, silent, still, blue sky, sun; life beginning to stir. Last night there was the harbour and my friend, laughing together as the coloured-light-lit water, shimmered. All around people, all types, getting on with life, with each other, with things. Friendship, talking, laughing, thinking, being, doing and, all those kind of things.

This morning the red-roofed red-bricked house opposite, curtains still closed, and in the distance a dog barking. Further in the distance cars swoosh along a big road but here, the road is still, quiet, empty, except for next doors cat with fluffy tail in the air and paws pattering.

It is an absolutely splendid spring day, here. And today, on this Slow Sunday, that is where I focus my attention, as the sun comes through my open windows and paints gold across the walls and carpet. Today, I live in gold, because then, hearts can hold a lot.

Daffodils, lighting everything up and magnolia has burst, petals and flowers lining every street, oceans of beauty. Soon those petals will strewn the pavements and cover cars bonnets and roofs like giant confetti, but for now, the trees are proud.

Soon I will venture out and there will be people and parks and dogs and children, running and playing and the sun will be in the sky warming up this piece of the planet as sky stays blue all day, and birds chirrup in the tree out front while someone up the road cleans a car, and on main street people will eat and drink, and wander up and down as shops sell the things that shops sell and I, will wonder. I will wonder without words listening to birds in between car noises and tilting my head, to the sun.

Recipe

Peas, courgettes, artichoke hearts, basil, wild garlic

This was an easy congee with peas, courgettes, artichoke hearts, wild garlic and fresh basil. There was also a little bit of leek I had left sautéd in butter, then I went everything else including pre-cooked brown basmati rice and water. Added lemon, salt, black pepper and olive oil. Simple, easy, and felt good to eat. All Ayurvedic constitutional types could eat this.

A short one this week, I’m off to dream of boats and turquoise sea.

Wishing you the warmest,

Lucy x
