Not quite summer over here in the UK but soon, soon, there will be giant sunflowers.
This slow Sunday morning the winds they are a blowing. Red bricked houses hidden by tree branches covered in green, swaying and blustering. Every now and then blue sky appears and that sun, gold as gold can be, lights up leaves, and sunlight playing across my walls, shining on books, that need a dust.
My mum never dusted, and when she was coming to the end of this precious precious life, got very upset if I tried to clean or dust anything in her home. I realised one day I was doing it for myself, so people would think well of me; and stopped. Because that’s what gave my mum peace in those final months.
There was love in that.
Today, as I look at the sun playing across my desk I remember that, and happiness shines. Sometimes, we just have to do what’s right and not care what people think.
The sky, now clearing of cloud, wind blustering and clearing them away. It’s just turned into a blue skied day, right before my eyes.
Simple things weaving happy times as life’s ordinary, makes everything as it should be.
I wanted to say a big hello to my new followers, there have been quite a few arriving through who has a great food feed; I thought I’d introduce myself.
I’m Lucy and I write warm words for weary minds, and a recipe, in my Slow Sunday letter for all my subscribers. I do this not to ignore the world, but to help people come back to balance, so they can bring themselves to the world, well.
I’ve been so busy setting up my new business they haven’t been weekly as I intended. I’m hoping that will change soon. For paying subscribers I write about Ayurveda, and intend to record warm words to relax stressed brains, and fall asleep stories. And I’m thinking about what my paying subscribers would like, perhaps a Q&A on Ayurveda once a month, how to come back to balance and manage stress? That’s the work I do with people. Anyone, paying or not, let me know in the comments what you’d like?
The other day, not so long ago, and not so far away; I saw a beetle the colour of metallic blue and emerald. Beautiful it was. Then as I dug out creeping buttercup and horsetail on the allotment lots of thick worms wove their way through the soil and, slow worms, long and silvery hid under leaves by the compost bin.
I love nature. It is what it is.
On the way home through the park, black crows waddled across the grass by the paddling pool still full of weed and green from the winter, and children played on the swings, kicked footballs, ran, fell over got back up and there was a birthday party in a corner with balloons waving and a surge of chatter and squeals and giggles.
Further on, outside the children’s area, dogs ran chasing balls and because the sun was out human beings celebrated with barbecues, and wine and beer and under some of the trees, single humans sat reading books, while balls and dogs and tiny children ran around them, this way and that. It was a feast, a feast of good things.
We feed our body with food, and we feed our mind through our senses. My senses had a banquet that day, and seagulls flew through open skies and magpies cha takked, and trees blew around with branches and leaves flying about in between still sunny warm moments. Welcome to the UK in May, I thought.
Tomorrow it may be raining, the forecast says for a week. That, is also May. A weaving of sun and cloud, warm days and cold, blue skies and grey as promises of summer shine through. Trees are looking fantastic.
Recipe
Blueberry and chia overnight oats
Here’s an easy breakfast, great for Pitta types (if you know your Ayurvedic needs).
Soak 1 cup oats, 1/4 cup chia seeds, in 2 cups milk. Add blueberries or/and bananas, cinnamon, raw honey or maple syrup, walnuts chopped up, or any nuts/seeds. Leave to soak overnight. Scrummy.
I thought I’d finish with a recording of warm words. This is recorded on my phone, not professionally recorded, yet. At some points you can hear the sound of the wind blowing in the tree out front through my open windows. And so think of this as a sketchbook recording, I’m playing, to get myself started. I’m seeing someone in a couple of weeks who is creating something to stop the reverb on my mic so I can record professionally. I thought it sounded good already, but I’ve been partly deaf since my 30’d and currently waiting for new hearing aids, and so help was needed to get a good sound. Then I will start recording regularly for my paying subscribers. But this sketchbook of recordings, to get me started, I thought I could be a beginning. I’d love it if you would let me know in the comments if you think my recording in this way, prior to professional quality, is something you would like. Do you think a shared sketchbook of recordings ideas, is something you would enjoy? The aim of my recordings is to relax tired stressed brains.

Wishing you the warmest,
