Royal Ascot 2025: Business Aviation Planning Guide

Royal Ascot, taking place June 17–21, 2025, is Britain’s most prestigious horse racing event and a fixture on the global social calendar. With royalty, celebrities, and ultra-high net worth individuals in attendance, expect a spike in business jet activity and high demand for airport slots and services across the London area.

Here’s everything you need to know about operating a business jet to London for Royal Ascot — and why RAF London Northolt (EGWU) is the top airport choice.

About Royal Ascot

Steeped in pageantry and tradition, Royal Ascot is held at the iconic Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire, just west of London. It combines elite horse racing with high fashion and daily appearances by the British royal family — drawing international attention and significant private aviation traffic.

The venue is located approximately 25 miles west of Central London and 13 miles south of Heathrow Airport.

Airport Options

Several nearby airfields are available for business aviation operators attending the race. The most strategic of these is RAF London Northolt (EGWU), offering the best combination of location, privacy, and operational simplicity.

Northolt (EGWU)

Northolt is a superb location for the West End if anyone going to Ascot is combining London with it.

Northolt is the preferred airport for attending Royal Ascot.

Distance from Ascot

Northolt is approximately 18 miles northeast of Ascot Racecourse, with a typical drive time of 35–45 minutes depending on traffic.

Privacy and Convenience

Operated by the Royal Air Force, Northolt offers a secure, discreet experience. Slots and PPR are required, but congestion is minimal and operations are business-aviation friendly.

Proximity to Heathrow

Northolt’s location near Heathrow supports convenient crew swaps and airline connections.

Parking and Capacity

Long-term parking is generally available, but advance planning is essential due to increased activity during Royal Ascot.

Runway Limitations

The 5,535-ft. runway accommodates most business jets. Larger aircraft (ACJ/BBJ and up) may be limited by fire cover.

More details are available in our London Northolt Destination Guide.

Note: Weekend June 2025 Hours

In June, commercial flying (including business and private aviation) is permitted Monday to Friday from 0800–1800 local. Any bookings previously approved between 1800–2000 will need to be rescheduled or cancelled. No commercial flying is allowed on Saturdays, and Sundays are limited to 1000–1700.

Other Airport Options

If Northolt is unavailable, Farnborough (EGLF) and Luton (EGGW) are also options:

  • Farnborough is just 16 miles southwest of Ascot and offers excellent facilities, though slots can be limited during peak times.
  • Luton is farther (~45 miles away) but operates 24/7 and typically has more (very expensive) parking availability.

Night Slot Restrictions

Night GA slots will be limited or unavailable across many London-area airports during summer 2025. Most airports, including Stansted and Luton, enforce strict curfews around 23:00 local. Plan accordingly to avoid diversions or overnight holds.

Final Thoughts

Universal Aviation – London Northolt provides discreet, VIP-level services tailored to Royal Ascot travelers, including private lounges, secure operations, and smooth ground coordination.

For business jet operators flying to Royal Ascot 2025, Northolt (EGWU) remains the most convenient and exclusive choice. Its combination of location, security, and privacy makes it ideal for this high-profile event.
