Nusa Penida East-West Day Tour | Paluang, Kelingking, Diamond, Treehouse

No Bali trip would ever be worthwhile without a visit to the breathtaking Nusa Penida Island. We had our Nusa Penida day tour during our 2nd day in Bali as one of the main highlight of our Bali trip. It was a day full of vibrant overlooking views of surrounding beaches and islands, an experience we would never forget!

For this island trip, you can do either an East tour, West tour, or a combination of both. In our case, we did the East & West combination tour. We picked Paluang Cliff, Kelingking Beach, Diamond Beach, and Rumah Pohon Treehouse from the list of places we could visit.

We booked this Nusa Penida day-trip with roundtrip fast-boat tickets from Klook. It includes fast-boat tickets from Sanur Port to Nusa Penida Harbor (vice versa), 8-hour private car service with driver, and fuel fees.

You may also book the same here: Nusa Penida Private Car Rental with Driver + Fast Boat

Note that you can pick a maximum of 4 places for a full-day tour. Here is the list of places you can choose to visit in Nusa Penida island:

East Trip

    • Atuh Beach
    • Diamond Beach
    • Rumah Pohon
    • Raja Lima
    • Bukit Teletubbies

West Trip

Travel to Sanur Port

07:30 AM – Travel from our hotel (Mailaku House) to Sanur Port via Grab. It’s good that Grab is widely used in Bali. We just booked our ride on the spot.

08:15 AM – Travel from Sanur Port to Nusa Penida Harbor via Fast-boat. When we arrived at the Sanur Port, we walked to Axe Stone Fast Cruise and showed the staff our online vouchers. Then they gave us actual tickets for the boat ride.

09:20 AM – Arrived at Nusa Penida Harbor and meet-up with the car driver. Just a quick introduction and arrangements of the places we want to visit for the whole day. We picked 2 from East, and 2 from West. We also paid an environmental fee worth 25,000 IDR per person before the tour.

09:30 AM – Start of Nusa Penida East + West  Day Tour

Paluang Cliff

View from Paluang Cliff

Nestled on the edge of a cliff, Paluang Cliff is a breathtaking viewpoint to enjoy epic sea views. This is where you could see Kelingking’s east/back side having rocky hills covered with lush vegetation. The view was made even more picturesque by the small rocky island surrounded by waves and vibrant waters.

Entrance Fee = 30,000 IDR / person
Parking Fee = 10,000 IDR / vehicle

Aside from the mesmerizing seascapes, there are available photo spots along the cliff to make the experience more memorable. They built cliff-side seats fashioned like a tip of a boat, a swing, and one that looks like Dr. Strange’s inter-dimensional portal (sorry I don’t know how else I could describe it).

The staff here will give you queue number for photo-ops. We waited for about 15 minutes before we could take our photos. There’s a small area with benches shaded by trees where you could wait before your turn.

Our car service driver, Wira, politely volunteered to take some of our photos.

Kelingking Beach

Overlooking view of Kelingking Beach

Kelingking Beach is the one we often see in featured advertisements for Bali, Indonesia. The main attraction here is the breathtaking viewpoint on the cliff where you could have a bird’s eye view of Kelingking Beach, its surrounding rock formations, and the turquoise waters. Interestingly, Kelingking Beach was named as T-Rex bay on Google maps, as it uniquely resembles a dinosaur’s backbone.

Stunning view of Kelingking Beach and its T-Rex rock formations

There are several viewing spots here, but Wira took us to the highest point with lesser crowd. What I meant with lesser crowd was that it’s still crowded, but not as crowded as where the stairs going down the beach is located (we still needed to line up for a photo opportunity). And since we’re on the highest point, we had a clearer unobstructed view of the beach.

We did not attempt to descend to the beach since we’re only doing a day-trip. But if you’re staying in Nusa Penida for a couple of days or more, it’s recommended to go down and experience Kelingking Beach firsthand.

Diamond Beach

Diamond Beach as seen atop a cliff

Located on the southeastern coast of Nusa Penida, Diamond Beach is one of the most breathtaking paradise one would find on the island. It has white sandy shore, and vibrant turquoise waters. From atop a cliff, you’ll have an amazing view of the beach backed by towering rock formations. There are also small diamond-shaped rocky islands on its waters, hence the name Diamond Beach.

Entrance Fee = 25,000 IDR / person
Parking Fee = 10,000 IDR / vehicle

Staircase path going to the beach

In order to access the beach, you will need to climb down a concrete staircase with 166 steps. While the descent to the beach sounds easy, the ascent will surely be tiring. That’s why we only reached almost half of the staircase and decided to just admire the views from there, take some photos, and go back to the top. But if given the chance to come back with a lot more time, we will surely descend all the way to the beach!

Rumah Pohon Tree House

Scenic overlooking views at Rumah Pohon Tree House

Rumah Pohon “Tree House” is another attraction that gained popularity in Nusa Penida due to its alluring rustic island charm. The famed Treehouse sits beautifully on a hilltop overlooking the ocean, beaches, and rocky islands. The tree house is not only for photo opportunities, you can also stay here for a night. You can book your stay here: Rumah Pohon Tree House

Entrance Fee = 25,000 IDR / person
Parking Fee = 10,000 IDR / vehicle

Quick snaps! IYKYK!

While the place looks alluring and scenic, the path going here is quite despicable. Expect steep stairs that you will need to climb down, up, down, and so on before you reach the famed tree house. The view was worth it though.

Take note that each person will only be allotted 2 minutes for taking photos. Since we’re a couple, we paid double so we could have 2 minutes each. At first this may sound a bit unreasonable, but if you will think about it, it helps regulate the time so that everyone could have an equal chance. Nobody wants to go through the hassles of going there only to queue until the sun comes down and the view was no more.

Nusa Penida Day Tour

The entire tour took about a little over 8 hours, including the lunch break (we had our lunch at Kelingking Bar & Resto after our Kelingking tour), and the travel back to Nusa Penida Harbor. Our car service driver, Wira, took care of us the entire time, up until we boarded the fast-boat going back to Sanur Port. Thanks, Wira!

This Nusa Penida Day Tour is absolutely one we will never forget! The sites are uniquely awesome and the weather was pleasant the entire time eventhough we visited during off-peak (monsoon) month. I could say that it was all worth the risk! But of course, it’s best to visit during summer season for safety reasons. Besides, no one will be allowed to board the boat if the weather is not good enough.
