DOG BREED DESCRIPTION:

Labrador Retriever

The Labrador Retriever descended from dogs taken to Newfoundland by explorers, fishermen and settlers and evolved by natural selection. Excellent retrievers of fish and game, they often sailed with fishermen and in the early 1800s, English sportsmen acquired a few of the hardy dogs. The Labrador Retriever comes in three different colours: yellow, black and a beautiful chocolate hue.

TEMPERAMENT

They are very affectionate with both children and seniors alike and are ideal for families. Labradors are great swimmers and waterfowl hunters. It is said Labradors are so gentle they can carry an egg in their mouths. That said, Labradors can be be prone to chewing objects and require lots of outdoor action!

Training

The AKC states that training should start as soon as your Lab enters the home. Labs are known as people dogs and require a lot of socialization. Also known as people pleasers, they are easy to train and do so quickly.

Grooming

Labrador Retrievers only require basic grooming which would include nail trims, brushing, ears and oral care. This breed will shed only twice a year but regular brushing is still recommended.
