June is Brain & Alzheimer’s Awareness Month: How Sagora Senior Living Supports Brain Health

At Sagora Senior Living, we are constantly creating new experiences to engage our residents and find exciting ways to showcase our amazing communities and how we truly embrace each moment we create together.

Every June, we recognize Brain and Alzheimer’s Awareness Month—a time to shine a light on the importance of cognitive health and support those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. At Sagora Senior Living, we take this month to honor residents, families, and caregivers impacted by memory loss, while also advocating for proactive brain health in all stages of life.

Our Commitment to Memory Care

Alzheimer’s disease affects over 6 million Americans, with numbers continuing to rise each year. At Sagora, we understand the emotional and physical toll memory loss can take, and we are deeply committed to providing compassionate, specialized care through our Memory Care programs. Our communities are designed to create safe, structured environments that promote comfort, dignity, and a sense of belonging.

Our “Pathways” Memory Care Program provides individualized support tailored to each resident’s needs. Through person-centered care, engaging routines, and purposeful activities, we help our residents maintain a sense of identity and connection to the world around them. From sensory therapy and music programs to memory-enhancing games and physical exercise, we aim to nurture the mind, body, and spirit.

Educating and Raising Awareness
Education is one of the most powerful tools we have in the fight against Alzheimer’s. Sagora Senior Living teams actively participate in awareness campaigns, fundraising events, and educational seminars to help spread knowledge about cognitive decline and dementia-related conditions. Whether through Alzheimer’s Association Walks to End Alzheimer’s, staff training initiatives, or family support meetings, we’re proud to be part of the movement to increase understanding and reduce the stigma surrounding Alzheimer’s.

Throughout the month of June, many of our communities will host events focused on brain health, from caregiver education sessions to interactive memory workshops for residents and families. These events provide tools and resources to help families navigate the challenges of memory loss and make informed decisions for their loved ones.

Promoting Brain Health at Every Age
Supporting cognitive wellness isn’t just for those already experiencing memory concerns. Brain health is something everyone should consider, no matter their age. At Sagora, we encourage daily routines that support healthy brain function for all residents, including those in Independent and Assisted Living.

Here are just a few ways we incorporate brain-healthy habits into community life:

  • Physical Activity: Movement increases blood flow to the brain and supports overall cognitive performance. Group fitness classes, walking clubs, and balance exercises are offered regularly.
  • Nutritious Meals: Our culinary teams craft balanced meals rich in brain-boosting nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, leafy greens, berries, and whole grains.
  • Lifelong Learning: We offer ongoing opportunities for intellectual engagement, including lectures, book clubs, puzzles, and trivia games that challenge the mind.
  • Social Connections: Staying socially active reduces the risk of cognitive decline. Residents are encouraged to participate in social events, clubs, and group outings to foster strong relationships.
  • Stress Reduction: Chronic stress can negatively impact brain health. Meditation, relaxation activities, and creative expression are integrated into our lifestyle programming to help residents maintain emotional balance.
