Triple J Hottest 100 Masks (Australia Day 2009)

Triple J Hottest 100 Countdown – a happy snap wearing masks we downloaded from the Triple J Hottest 100 site (errr… Australians get very silly on Australia day if you didn’t already.
This picture is taken later in the day and I’m the only Aussie in the picture (there were more of us about earlier). Twinkles is our honorary Aussie and can often be heard using the word, "Crikey!" and other such Aussie-isms.
Tiyuk (allquixotic on plurk) kindly rebroadcast/streamed the countdown for the Aussie community in Second Life which meant we had a reasonably uninterrupted stream and that he was up until about 3am (US) on his Sunday night ensuring that the connection was restored if it went down – LEGEND!
Taskar is the newest addition to the Eloquence "family" and is delightful. He got fully into the spirit of Australia Days and helped make it lot of fun.
About Triple J’s Hottest 100 Countdown – an Australia Day tradition
The Triple J Hottest 100 countdown is a countdown of the top 100 songs from the previous year as voted by ‘the people’. It starts at number 100 and works up to number 1 – THE hottest hit. The countdown has been running in one guise or another since 1989.
Voting opens a month or so before the event and closes about the week before the countdown which occurs on Australia day. There’s no restrictions on who can vote in the hottest 100 and participation form Aussies (ex-pats and friends) from around the world is invited and embraced. The countdown is streamed across the Internet so no matter where you are – if you have a ‘net connection – you can join in. In 2009 there were ~800,000 voters from Australia and around the world. A few months after the countdown the hottest 100 CD’s are released so you can re-live the memory.
On the Hottest 100 countdown website you’ll find photos/pictures of Australia Day/Hottest 100 countdown parties from around the world; silly downloads – like the masks we are wearing in this picture, sweep stakes forms, invitation templates, etc; history of the countdown and bits and pieces from previous years; a guest book to share your party Australia Day experience and more.
To me the hottest 100 and Australia day are inseparable.
Triple J Unearthed – find new music and artists from Australia
Triple J is an Australian radio station that strongly supports new music. In addition to the radio station, Triple J runs the Triple J Unearthed website where new artists and bands can add a profile and upload up to three songs (as a visitor to the site you can freely download these songs). By having a profile on the site musicians are automtically entered in any number of competitions that includes winning the opportunity to play support for well know artists/bands and more.
I love the Triple J Unearthed site and often go and look up a random keyword and download from all artists/songs matching that word – it’s a great way to find new music and artists. There is a Triple J Unearthed club on ABC Island in Second LIfe (though I must admit I have only had a quick peek – mostly I just visit the Unearthed website).
