In 1994, Sachsenring discovered 444 Trabants in the port of Mersin, which had been exported to Turkey a few years earlier. However, the Turkish importer went bankrupt and the cars were not sold on the local market. After being brought to Germany, the vehicles were restored and equipped with gold emblems, an engraved plate with the name and surname of the buyer, artificial leather upholstery, radio and catalytic converter. The buyer also received a special key and a leather wallet. This series of Trabants was named "einer von 444" ("one of the 444"). The vehicle, however, due to its too high price, which was more than three times the price of the Trabant 1.1 in 1991, sold poorly and by 1996 only 90 units were sold. In the end, it was decided to significantly lower the price and sales of cars began in the Allkauf supermarkets.
