Tommy White Scholarship Fund- Elgins Win, 1982

Title: In May 1982, the St. Thomas Elgins edged the London Majors 8-7 at Emslie Field to win the first Tommy White cup baseball game. Mr. White’s son, Barry, presented the victorious Elgins with the cup. Pictured above, from left, are Elgins’ second baseman Bob McQuiggan, whose 12th inning homer won the game for St. Thomas; Bob Gilson, a member of the Tommy White Awards Foundation committee, which received the 0 proceeds form the game; and Elgins’ manager Barry Boughner. Robert "Bob" Gilson, of Aylmer, passed away on April 25th in his 76th year. He spearheaded a partnership that formed the London Tigers Baseball Club, an AA Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, acting as the General Manager from 1989-1993. He officiated basketball and football at the high school level for over 53 years, played and managed the St. Thomas Tomcats Junior Baseball team, acted as the coach and manager of the St. Thomas Elgins and was involved with minor baseball and hockey in Aylmer.
