Thank You From Alabama
Image by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center
Editor’s note: Hello Flickr friends. Thank you for all of the notes of support and encouragement. As some of you may know, North Alabama — home of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville — was devastated by a historic tornado outbreak on Wednesday. At the present time, there have been many fatalities and injuries, devastating property loss, and still about 600,000 people without power.
Because of the power and cell difficulties, my postings here will be sporadic for awhile, but I loved this image from 2000. To me it says "hope" and "a new day." Thanks again for all of the support!
Approximately every hour-and-half of the STS-101 mission, crew members could view the Sun either setting or rising, but few sunsets or sunrises compared with this 70mm image of the rising Sun. Part of the vertical stabilizer of the Space Shuttle Atlantis can be seen at bottom right.
