Spread Hexagons on a Circle

Paper: Circle of about 20 cm, Sandwich paper
Grid: 32 triangles
Model: Eric Gjerde
Book: Origami Tessellations p. 28-31
First fold with sandwich paper. I like the translucency, it looks almost like white glassine, but without the plasticness.
Reversing folds was a bit hard. Will try other brands, especially Toppits, which Robin recommends, when I get hold of it.
Folding a circle was fun and I was a bit surprised how the border turned out. I like those tips and broad strips on the edge. I folded the grid not from an inscribed hexagon but by halfing the distance from cirumference to the midpoint. This makes the outer grid lines shorter as with a ususal 32 grid on a hexagon, but for this tess with its very small molecule both will work.
This is a photo of the tessellation (I dubbed this a "circleation") made after lamenating it. It’s meant to be a coaster, a circle is perfect for that 🙂 Which leaves me with the problem to once more cut that into a circle, but this time I will not use a compass, the hole in the paper is not nice, a hole in the coaster would be dumb. Let’s go search the flat for something round and the right size. Best thing about compasses or circle cutter is their flexibility in terms of diameters 😉
