Renishaw Hall

More of this gilded angel which is well placed amidst the trees. Trying to find out more about another statue in the grounds I discovered that it was Sir Hamo Thorneycroft’s Muse of Fame, removed by the authorities from the top of the Poets’ Fountain in Mayfair (the other figures on the fountain having been lost). Apparently it was given to Sir Osbert Sitwell who moved it to Renishaw as it was too big to go through the doors of his London home. It was indeed gilded by Lady Sitwell, twice in fact, in 2002 and again in 2017.
