n this Careers in Development session, Annie Toro will discuss her extensive experience in global development policy, which ranges from numerous positions held on Capitol Hill to overseeing legislative operations with the International Medical Corps (IMC). She will specifically delve into her experiences concerning maternal and child health and female empowerment. Ms. Toro will also field questions from and offer advice to young professionals interested in building careers in global development today.

Ms. Toro currently serves as the Senior Adviser for Global Health Policy and Advocacy at International Medical Corps. Previously, Ms. Toro has served as Democratic Staff Director at the U.S. House Financial Services Committee Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations and Senior Legislative Counsel to U.S. Representatives Luis V. Gutierrez. She has held positions at the World Health Organization and the Organization of American States, working on a wide range of development issues including tuberculosis, malaria, child survival, violence prevention, food security, workforce development, noncommunicable diseases, emergency preparedness and response, immigration, housing, health funding, and sanitation and hygiene.
