Jack the Best Dog in the Universe

Jack is truly one of the greatest things that ever happened to Planet Earth.
I found him in a nasty, super sketchy mall pet store and paid a ridiculous amount of money to bring him home because he looked just like a Mogwai from Gremlins and I didn’t have the heart to leave him there in that awful place.
Well, it turned out I didn’t just get a dog. I got some magical creature from another dimension. I’m not kidding, just ask anyone who knows him. He has been nothing but sheer hilarity and delight to own and have in the family. Even as I write this, I miss the sound of him chugging and grunting around through the house looking for some company. He loves to hang out with anyone, including the cat. He loves the hell out of life! He loves people and sunshine and any opportunity to run and skip about. He especially loves eating, particularly dandelions, bugs and rocks (so not kidding). When Jack goes out with us, we can’t even get past the parking lot without being bombarded by curious onlookers who are delighted to see him, inquisitive about what Jack is, where did I get him, how old is he, etc. He is the nicest dog you’d ever meet. Jack adds joy and love to our lives on a daily basis.
This morning we took Jack in to be neutered and found out at the young age of 7 months, he has irreparable and extensive kidney damage. It’s probably congenital and very advanced, only 1/3 of his kidneys are functioning. After a third call for more information, the doctor revealed Jack will probably not live much longer than a year. To say we are completely beside ourselves with sadness is an understatement. I love Jack more than most humans…Of all the death being doled out in the world, Jack should be at the very bottom of the list. Or not at all.
I won’t go into the details of what will happen specifically to Jack’s body for it’s far too sad to ponder.
Over the last few hours, we have been doing a lot of research and it turns out there are a few options to extend Jack’s life and ease the effects of his condition. One involves flushing the fluids out of his little body regularly to keep the fluids clean. We would have to do this through his skin every day. Unpleasant. The other options were surprisingly all holistic. There are many natural things we can incorporate into Jack’s diet to help him fight. And that’s what we’re gonna do, we’re gonna fight with and for the little Furfacean to keep him here. We are going to do everything we can (and can afford) to help sustain Scrumpy Jack’s life and make as primo quality as we can.
Tonight before you to bed, say a little prayer or send a good thought Jack’s way. He’d do the same for you.
Thank all of you who heard the news and offered your sympathies! Jack loves you and so do we.
