Frontera – Lewis Shiner

Wish I had read this decades ago, back when it came out IN 19841
It’s very good, and possibly the best SF novel I’ve read so far this year.*
Abandoned Martian colonists (officially presumed dead) finally receive a visit from the first mission back to Mars in years. Both sides have secrets, and then the Russians also turn up!
It reminded me of Philip K. Dick’s Mars based novel, Martian Time-Slip at times, which is good because that’s probably my favourite PDK novel!

* On checking, I see that I picked another Shiner novel, his giant mainstream Outside the Gates of Eden as my favourite new book of 2019
