Doppler on Wheels (or DOW) is a fleet of X-band radar trucks maintained by the Center for Severe Weather Research (CSWR) in Boulder, Colorado
This truck (one of a few existing) is used to look inside a storm cell to see what’s happening inside. With the doppler radar the meteorologists can determine windspeeds, storm movement, detect a possible tornado or rotation, the intensity of the stormcell and much more.
The yellow pod is a mobile weather station which can be deployed in the storm’s path.
