OBITUARY.
MR. J. B. CHAPPELL
There passed away yesterday Mr. J. B. Chappell, of Grange Road, Mount Eden, in his seventy-seventh year. The late Mr. Chappell was well known in the Bay of Plenty, having arrived from Portsmouth, England, nearly forty years ago in one of the Te Puke special settlement immigrations. He chose to reside in Tauranga, however, and there, until his removal to Auckland early this year, became identified with the progress of the town, being a member of various local bodies, and especially active in church and educational affairs. He was the youngest and only surviving son of the Rev. William Chappell, of Southampton, England. He leaves a widow, four sons, and three daughters—the Rev. A. B. Chappell, M.A., Registrar of Auckland University College; Mr. W. Chappell, B.A., headmaster of Aratapu District High School; Mr. F. F. Chappell, builder, Mangere; Mr. S. E. Chappell, valuer, Mount Eden; Mrs. H. M. Williams, Whanganui; Mrs. F. Roget, Mount Eden; and Nurse E. J. W. Chappell, Tauranga.

OBITUARY.
MRS. J. R. CHAPPELL.
There passed away last evening, in her 81st year, Mrs. J. B. Chappell, of Grange Road, Mount Eden. She was particularly well known in Tauranga, where she arrived, with her husband and family, in 1881, among a party of special settlers voyaging in a Shaw Savill sailing vessel, the Lady Jocelyn. Characterised by a genius of kindly helpfulness and many-sided capability, she became much esteemed and beloved in that district. For many years she was a member of the School Committee, and was prominently active in church and philanthropic work. Some six years ago Mr. and Mrs. Chappell removed to Auckland. Here she maintained her activity until within a week of her death, devoting much energy to W.C.T.U. and similar religious work. Mr. Chappell pre-deceased her a few years since. The bereaved family consists of Mrs. George Whitelaw (Christchurch). Rev. A. B. Chappell, M.A., Mr. W. Chappell, M.A., Mr. F. F. Chappell. Mr. S. E. Chappell, Mrs. F. Roget (all of Auckland), and Nurse E. J. W. Chappell, now in England. Interment takes place at Waikumete to-morrow afternoon, a funeral service being held at 1.40 p.m. at Grange Road Baptist Church.
