A central meeting point and generally lovely place to relax, Parque Calderón is the central park of Cuenca.

Plaza Abdón Calderón, known as Republic Square or Plaza de Armas, is a square located in Cuenca, Ecuador. Around the park is El Sagrario Church, better known as the Old Cathedral, and that of the Immaculate or New Cathedral. In addition, there are the buildings of the Government, the Municipality, the old seminary and the Palace of Justice, between Benigno Malo, Mariscal Sucre, Luis Cordero and Simón Bolívar streets.
The government of Eloy Alfaro named him Luis Vargas Torres. In 1920 he changed to Abdón Calderón.
In the park there is a roundabout as well as a monument to Abdón Calderón inaugurated on May 24, 1931. For the monument, the European Carlos Mayer was hired for its bronze construction on September 22, 1927.
