A Window on Watford

I wonder how many people pass this ancient window in Market Street, Watford, without even realising that it is there?
Set into the side of the building which now houses Moss Bros., this window was removed from the old Compasses Inn which stood on the site until 1928. It is believed to have come originally from the ‘Rest House’ that stood here in the 15th Century to serve those with business at Watford Market, which was granted its Charter by Henry I in 1100 and was one of the most important markets in England during Medieval times.
Watford still has a large market in Charter Place, open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 7am to 5.30pm.
