1966 Go karting on MIS runway

On Fridays we’d go out to the Masjed-e-Soleiman airport early and make a go cart track. I was a little heavy (nearly 11 stone) for the low powered no-gears machines but that got me a handicap advantage (I needed a pocketful of change plus helmet to just make the 11st weight) and I got really good at controlled slides round gravelly corners. That’s me rear right, overtaking two people. Having that feel for skids has helped in a car a few times over the years, instinctively turning into a skid to get control. The other good life lesson was that being pleasant to the local mechanic who kept the go-karts running meant ours was that little bit faster.
