1911 Rolls with Subtle Paint
Magnificent 1911 Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost Limousine by by Thrupp & Maberly in very very lime paint. There is some evidence that this is the first car built with a sliding roof panel (sun roof), allowing an open-air experience for its occupants. It also sported oval rear and division windows, and nickel fittings. Shortly after completion, the car was photographed for the 1913 Rolls-Royce sales brochure, which proved to be beneficial in the confirmation of the marque’s advanced design when other automakers claimed their retractable roofs were the first.
The first owner was John J. Musker who curiously had the speedometer calibrated in furlongs rather than miles per hour.
The good news is that you would have had change from your cool million to buy the car, as it last sold at auction for only 0,000 and think about all the fun you could have had with that extra 60 Grand……and No Limey jokes here!
