Probably the reason I subscribed to MasterClass, but I delayed watching this course. Who doesn’t know Anna Wintour I wander? Chief Editor at Vogue Magazine, she is pretty well known for her fashion taste and signature looks. I tried to take some ideas from this course, but it’s kind of high level.
1. Own your decisions, both good or bad. You have/ had your reasons, don’t apologise or overexplain.
2. Be open to the world culture and events. Read daily the news, go to movies, theather plays. Immerse yourself in what this world has to offer.
3. Have a great team of people by your side. Show your appreciation and also, give them projects they are passionate about. ( I guess my family is my team, go go go !)
4. Prepare for your meetings/ interviews etc. Don’t try to create false impressions, show your true interests. Don’t say you like tennis (just because it’s well seen) when you have never been to a tennis match. (Well I like tennis, but I don’t go around telling this, I admit I never been to a tennis match, but I did buy and read some biografies of famous tennis players. I guess there are degrees of liking something.) Prepare for your jobs. Do research on the subject, gather references. Create a moodboard.
5. Don’t be afraid to lead. Do what you want, do what you feel is right, don’t look at others and think they are not doing that then it’s probably not right. Do your thing!
6. In dark times, don’t give up. Find resources, find people and create something despite the odds.
For photographers
Prepare for your jobs. Do research on the subject. Gather references. Create a moodboard.
For aspiring young designers
1. be original, have a different perspective, bring something new
2. everything must tell the same story, have a cohesive story in everything you create
3. you must have a good business partner, that trusts your vision but also understands finances. Creating beautifull clothes is not enough, you must sell them too, you must aspire and reach financial success.
