Nosiola is often considered to be the only native white grape variety of Trentino, and is known for being a crisp white wine with dominant citrus flavor and an underlying minerality.
While versatile, being made dry, sweet, and dried for Vin Santo, we tried the dry white from Cesconi for this review!
Strong Fruit Flavors in Cesconi’s Nosiola
This Nosiola was medium lemon in color with medium aromas of pear, yellow apple, toast, saline, peach, grapefruit, pineapple, and wet stone.
On the palate, it was dry with medium(+) acidity and medium alcohol, body, flavor intensity, and finish. We had flavors of lemon, yellow apple, pineapple, wet stone, toast, and grapefruit.
Although this one pushed into the riper fruit territory slightly, we had dominant citrus and stone fruit notes with hints of minerality and lees to finish, making this one a bright, vibrant, and fruit-forward wine all around.
Nosiola Food Pairing – Risotto with Apple Fennel Sausage
We went for a pairing of risotto topped with peas and asparagus and grilled apple fennel sausage for this pairing, as we thought the vibrancy of the wine would pair nicely with meat as well as the vegetables and herbs.
The herbs themselves were probably the best part of this pairing, as we had a bit more pop in flavor from those, as well as some increase in the mineral notes in the wine as well with slightly less pronounced citrus notes.
Score: 2 / 5
We’re okay on this one.
Overall, while we were pleased to try a new grape varietal, this one being driven by primary fruit, particularly in the citrus category, made this one a bit lacking in the complexity department that we always seek. As such, while it was a well made wine and easy drinking, we’re okay on another bottle; however, are curious about seeing how this grape is in a Vin Santo!
Cesconi is located at Via Marconi, 39 38015 Pressano in Italy. We purchased this bottle on Wine.com and enjoyed it in 2025.
