At PAAVANI Ayurveda, June is a time to celebrate moksha—the Sanskrit term for liberation. This sacred concept invites us to explore what it means to live freely, in alignment with our truth and unburdened by physical, emotional or energetic stagnation.
In Ayurveda, the journey toward liberation begins with cleansing. Before we can experience clarity and expansion, we must first release what weighs us down. This accumulated heaviness is known as ama—a toxic buildup that stems from incomplete digestion, unresolved emotions and unprocessed experiences.
What Is Ama & Why Does It Matter?
Ama is considered the root of imbalance and disease in Ayurveda. It obstructs the flow of prana (life force) and weakens agni (digestive fire), leading to stagnation throughout the body and mind.
Signs of ama may include:
-
Brain fog or mental dullness
-
Bloating or sluggish digestion
-
A coated tongue
-
Breakouts or skin congestion
-
Low energy or a sense of disconnection
When ama accumulates, it blocks the body’s natural detoxification pathways and disrupts clarity on all levels. According to Ayurvedic wisdom, the path to moksha begins by clearing these internal blockages gently, mindfully and consistently.
An Ayurvedic Morning Ritual to Cleanse Ama
We invite you to embrace a simple yet powerful morning ritual, rooted in dinacharya (daily routine), to awaken your senses and support your body’s natural cleansing process.
Pair these practices with our Cilantro Lime Detox Soup (recipe below) to support digestion, remove ama and nourish your system with lightness and clarity.
Step-by-Step Cleansing Ritual:
-
Tongue Cleaning (Jihva Nirlekhanam )
Use a Copper Tongue Cleaner to gently scrape from back to front 3 to 5 times. This removes toxins accumulated overnight, stimulates digestion and supports mental clarity. -
Oil Pulling ( Gandusha )
Swish a tablespoon of our Pulling Oil in your mouth for 20 minutes to draw out ama, promote oral health and balance the oral microbiome. Spit into the trash and rinse with warm water. -
Brush Teeth
Follow with gentle brushing to continue refreshing the mouth and clearing stagnation. -
Warm Lemon Water
Sip a cup of warm water with fresh lemon juice to hydrate the tissues, stimulate agni and gently support elimination. -
Pitta Spice Blend
About 30 minutes before your meal, take our Pitta Spice Blend as a digestive churna to spark your agni and support nutrient absorption.
Cilantro Lime Detox Soup: An Ayurvedic Summer Cleanse Recipe

Our Cilantro Lime Detox Soup is thoughtfully crafted to help clear ama and support the body’s natural detoxification process.
Cilantro cools excess heat, purifies the liver & blood and gently clears pitta dosha. Lime uplifts the senses and promotes emotional clarity, making space for a lighter, clearer mind. Cumin and ginger stimulate digestion without aggravating pitta, supporting a strong digestive fire (agni) to break down and eliminate toxins with ease.
Together, these ingredients create a light, tridoshic soup that’s as balancing to the body as it is calming to the mind.
Ingredients:
1 tbsp ghee or coconut oil
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
4 cups filtered water or light vegetable broth
Juice of 1 to 2 limes
1 stalk celery, chopped (optional)
1 small zucchini, chopped (optional)
1 bunch fresh cilantro (stems and leaves)
Himalayan salt to taste
Optional Toppings:
Fresh cilantro leaves
Toasted sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds
A swirl of coconut milk

Instructions:
-
Sauté spices: In a medium pot, warm the ghee or oil. Add cumin seeds and ginger. Sauté for 1 to 2 minutes until aromatic.
-
Add broth and veggies: Pour in water or broth. Add celery and zucchini if using. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes or until vegetables are soft.
-
Blend cilantro: In a blender, combine cilantro with a ladle of hot broth and blend until smooth.
-
Combine and season: Return the cilantro mixture to the pot. Stir in lime juice and salt. Simmer on low for 3 more minutes.
-
Serve warm with your favorite toppings and a moment of stillness.
Eat with Intention
Before your first bite, take a breath and offer your intention for the meal or day ahead.
May I release what no longer serves me.
May I digest life with ease.
May I feel free.
