Astro Joplin is an emerging independent singer, rapper, and songwriter who made his solo profession debut in 2020 with the album GoStro. That record introduced an eclectic and talented recording artist with a genre-fluid sound. Originally from East Texas, Joplin now calls Boulder, Colorado home.

Since his debut, the prolific Astro Joplin has released an impressive volume of work including three LPs, two EPs, and the recent single “Dan Pacino”. Heavily inspired by the rock & roll soul of the legendary Janis Joplin, his sound blends elements of country, pop, hip-hop, and rock into a distinctly Southern vibe. A former troubled teen, the singer is now a nationally accredited public speaker on topics of criminal injustice. 

IAL “The story of Basahalani” is the brand new EP from Astro Joplin, released worldwide via all major streaming services on May 29, 2024. The eight-song set takes us on a deeply personal ride through the trials and tribulations of the singer’s life. Although rife with personal struggle and pain, it is ultimately a story of positivity, growth, and perseverance. From the downtempo country hip-hop love of tracks like “Naked Cowboy” and “Laywimme”, to the verbose freestyle soliloquies like “Finer things” and “I Am Love”, Astro Joplin weaves multiple genres into his rich tapestry of sound. 

“Between the Lines” is a solo acoustic track with a 90s alt-pop vibe, while “City N Country” adds a bit of hip-hop flavor to that mix. Astro Joplin plugs in on tunes like the slightly psychedelic heartbreaker “Real Tears” and the electric dream-pop emo trap of “Star Shopping”. Throughout the record, the singer delivers soulful and introspective observations on his past loves, past lives, and the new direction he is living today.
