The uninhabited Sand Island is owned by Nugent Sand Co. and is basically sandy soil covered in trees and shrubs.
The beached boat is a 10-foot aluminum Sears Gamefisher with a 1970’s era 4 hp Evinrude outboard motor.
(Evinrude Motors was founded in 1907, later becoming part of Outboard Marine Corporation. OMC was acquired out of bankruptcy in 2000 by Bombardier Recreational Products which continued to build Evinrude branded motors until 2020.)
I only went out when there was little or no current, and the raised prow meant it handled waves well, probably better than a jon boat. In shallow water, I tipped the motor up and rowed.
There is a yellow service truck on the east roadway of the K&I Bridge, which is owned by Norfolk Southern Railway.
The Sherman Minton Bridge is in the distance.
