Super Rugby Pacific has reported positive trends in audience engagement and match performance across its 2025 regular season, according to data released this week.
Key performance indicators show increases in viewership, match attendance, and digital engagement, despite the number of regular season fixtures decreasing from 84 to 77. Overall match attendance grew by six percent year-on-year.
In Australia, Stan Sport recorded a 27 percent rise in average streaming audience, while free-to-air broadcaster Nine reported a 13 percent increase in viewership. In New Zealand, Sky Sport and Sky Open attracted a combined 1.83 million viewers, with digital platforms Sky Go and Sky Sport Now registering a 19 percent increase.
Fiji also saw high engagement levels, with peak concurrent viewership on the Walesi App reaching 395,436—equivalent to over one-third of the national population.
Super Rugby Pacific CEO Jack Mesley said the competition is focused on delivering a faster, more engaging format. Data from Opta supports this, showing matches were played at a higher pace due to fewer stoppages and quicker restarts.
On-field results reflect increased competitiveness: 43.1 percent of matches were decided by a margin of seven points or fewer. The 2025 season ranks as the second-highest scoring in Super Rugby history, with an average of 57.8 points per game.
In addition to broadcast and attendance figures, the league reported continued growth in digital channels. Social media followers surpassed 2.5 million, marking a 25 percent year-on-year increase. Over 70,000 fans participated in Fantasy Super Rugby Pacific, making more than 4.5 million player trades during the season.
Mesley said the league is now focused on preparing for the Finals Series.
