”On World Mental Health Day, let’s all come together to talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters.Talking about our mental health can help us cope better with life’s ups and downs.”
The other day, I had an awful episode due to being ridden with high levels of stress and anxiety, and I felt exceptionally alone looking at my phone. I thought it was best to keep it to myself, which was quite hypocritical of me in that moment as I always tell people to reach out, but when you’re always helping people, it’s tough to ask for help yourself.
You and I need to recognise that reaching out is okay, and yes, it can be a little daunting. Many refrain from reaching out due to past trauma and other reasons, but it’s even better to remember that there’s always someone willing to listen, even if it feels complex.
”Asking for help is always okay. Whether you’re going through something big right now, have an ongoing mental health problem that needs support, or you’re just having a bad day, the important thing is not to try and cope on your own.”
Through my episode, I thought to myself, ”What would wordsbymul say?” yes, I referred to myself, and I thought she’d say reach out, and I am glad I reached out because, through my tears and anxiety, I was listened to for three hours. After the call, I felt lighter and calmer, and I can confidently say it feels great to feel seen and heard. I appreciated that more than ever.
Not everyone has the privilege of reaching out to friends or family and that’s why I am glad forums and help lines exist. I may tell a joke but I’d never tell a lie; You matter. Your Mental health matters and on world mental health day I would for you to reflect on this and remember you don’t have to suffer in silence, it’s okay reach out.
