FA Cup 2024-25 Season Review in Numbers

745 – The highest number of clubs to enter the competition for 12 years and the sixth highest total ever.

7.54pm – The earliest time in a new season a goal has ever been scored in FA Cup history was a tie between Jack Hobson-McVeigh of Royal Wootton Bassett Town and Louie Duffield of Great Yarmouth Town who both scored at 7.54pm on August 2nd 2024.

26 – Wolverhampton Casuals set an unwanted competition record when exiting the FA Cup in the Extra Preliminary Round for a 26th time.

99 – The new record number of seasons between consecutive FA Cup ties set by Beverley Town who last participated in the FA Cup in the 1919-20 season.

6– Will Kendall of Epsom and Ewell scored a six minute hat-trick in their Extra Preliminary Round replay at Phoenix Sports.

19 – Binfield FC became only the 19th club to win an FA Cup match 9-1 away from home in the competition’s history when doing so in the Preliminary Round at Longlevens FC!

1st time – This season witnessed FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round games played in the month of August for the first time ever!

29 – In the 2nd Qualifying Round Bury FC defeated Blyth Spartans from two steps above them in the football pyramid 29 years after Blyth Spartans beat original Bury FC from two steps above them.

100 – A 3rd Qualifying Round exit meant that Melksham Town became the first club to compete in 100 FA Cup campaigns without ever appearing in the 1st Round ‘Proper’.

33 – Bath Cityexited the FA Cup in the 4th Qualifying Round for a competition record 33rd time.

2nd time – Hednesford Townbecame only the second club in FA Cup history to twice reach the 1st Round ‘Proper’ after having started their campaigns in the Extra Preliminary Round.

4 – Kettering Town equalled the record for biggest gap in league status for an away victory in the FA Cup when winning at local rivals Northampton Town from four levels above in the 1st Round.

54 – Rochdale FC exited the FA Cup in the 1st Round ‘Proper’ for a competition record 54th time.

16 – Maidenhead Unitedhave now lost their last 16 games in the 1st Round ‘Proper’ (over a 138 year period) to create a new unwanted competition record.

923 – Kettering Town extended their lead at the top of the overall FA Cup scoring charts when scoring their 923rd goal in the competition in their 2nd Round defeat to Doncaster Rovers.

1st time – Josh Keeley of Leyton Orient became the first goalkeeper to score in open play in the ‘Proper’ rounds of the FA Cup in their 2nd Round win over Oldham Athletic.

114 – Bromley FCreached the 3rd Round for the first time ever in their 114th FA Cup campaign, the most campaigns any club has taken to reach the 3rd Round for the first time.

53 – Queens Park Rangers exited the FA Cup in the 3rd Round for a competition record 53rd time.

8 – Manchester City became first club to score eight goals (against Salford City) in an FA Cup 3rd Rd tie since Liverpool beat Swansea City 8-0 in a replay in 1989-90 season.

4 – For the first time in four years no club below the Championship progressed beyond the FA Cup 4th Round.

1st time – In the 5th Round Fulham FC knocked out the FA Cup holders (Manchester United) for the first time in the club’s history.

3 – AFC Bournemouth equalled the club’s best FA Cup run by reaching the Quarter Finals for only the 3rd time in their 105 campaigns.

7 – Manchester City became the first club to reach the Semi-Finals of the FA Cup for a seventh successive season.

146 – Nottingham Forest set a competition record for longest span between first and latest FA Cup Semi-Final appearances having reached the last four in the club’s debut campaign in 1879, a massive 146 years ago.

10 – Manchester City will be competing in the clubs third consecutive FA Cup Final, the tenth time a club has achieved that feat.
