Australian Athletics has announced that Lakeside Stadium will serve as the host for the upcoming Chemist Warehouse Australian All Schools Athletics Championships, following the success of last year’s event.
Commenting on the announcement, Australian Athletics CEO, Simon Hollingsworth, said: “Such performances, although rare, highlight the extraordinary potential these Championships can unveil.”
“Melbourne, with its rich athletics heritage, has solidified its standing as a global destination for athletes, especially with events like the Maurie Plant Meet, Melbourne.
“We’re excited to reintroduce this Championship to the city, fuelling our journey towards Brisbane 2032.
“This event is not just about competition; it’s an exhilarating celebration of the emerging generation of athletes,” Hollingsworth stated.
He emphasised the importance of the event as a launchpad for young talent, citing notable past competitors such as Claudia Hollingsworth, Sebastian Sultana, and Thewbelle Philp, who have transitioned from the All Schools stage to competing for Australia internationally.
The Championships, known for their vibrant atmosphere and the dynamic energy of teenage competitors, have established themselves as a hallmark of grassroots athletics and a crucial milestone within the national athletics pathway.
Historically, the event has hosted significant talents such as Catherine Freeman, Steve Hooker, Sally Pearson, and Nina Kennedy, all of whom have made indelible marks in the sport.
The 2025 Australian All Schools Athletics Championships are set to take place from 4-7 December, with the National Schools Challenge scheduled for the following day on December 8, marking another chapter in the nation’s athletics narrative.
